Raw Materials for Fabric Cleaning and Textile Care: Solvents, Surfactants and Cleaning Ingredients

Fabric cleaning is not only one application. A dry-cleaning process, a laundry detergent, a textile auxiliary system and an industrial cleaner may all deal with fabric or fiber surfaces, but the raw materials behind them can be quite different.

For chemical buyers, the first question is rarely "which cleaning chemical is best." It's usually about where the material will be used — dry cleaning, water-based washing, textile processing or general cleaning product production — because that determines everything else.

Dry Cleaning Solvents: Performance Difference from Washing Systems

Tetrachloroethylene (PCE, also known as Perchloroethylene, CAS 127-18-4) has a boiling point of 121°C and a density of 1.62 g/cm³ — denser than water, which is part of why it separates cleanly from fabric after the cleaning cycle. It dissolves oils, greases and organic residues without water, making it practical for dry cleaning and metal degreasing where water-based washing is not suitable.

PCE works through solvent action rather than surfactant-based emulsification — there's no foam, no rinsing step, no water compatibility issue. This is fundamentally different from how laundry surfactants work, which matters when buyers are comparing cleaning options across different process types.

For buyers, it is advisable to confirm product purity, packaging, SDS availability and applicable regulatory requirements for the destination market before placing an order, as documentation requirements may vary by region and application.

Surfactants for Laundry and Water-Based Cleaning

For laundry detergent, textile washing and industrial cleaning, surfactants are more commonly discussed. Alcohols C10 Ethoxylate is valued for its low foam and fast wetting — useful in spray cleaning and CIP systems where foam buildup affects equipment performance. Lauryl Alcohol Ethoxylate (AEO series) covers a broader HLB range and is more commonly used in standard laundry and textile scouring systems. NPE and OPE remain in use in markets where alkylphenol restrictions don't apply, and both are available in multiple EO grades to match different wetting, emulsification and detergency requirements.

In these applications, buyers usually check solubility, cloud point, compatibility with other surfactants and whether the grade performs in the actual washing temperature and water hardness conditions of their process. For textile auxiliary applications specifically, nonionic surfactants such as AEO and C10 ethoxylate are among the most commonly sourced raw materials from China-based suppliers.

Cleaning Ingredients for Foam and Product Stability

Some fabric cleaning and household cleaning products also need foam support, mildness or better system stability. Cocamide Ethoxylate typically contributes foam stabilization and mild cleaning support rather than primary detergency — it's usually part of a blend rather than the main surfactant, which is why dosage and compatibility with the base system matter more than standalone performance.

Betaine surfactants such as Cocamidopropyl Betaine and Lauryl Betaine are often considered when customers need foam support and a milder cleaning profile. These are not dry-cleaning solvents — they work in water-based systems where mildness, compatibility and foam behavior need to be balanced together.

Dotachem Support for Fabric Cleaning and Textile Care Raw Materials

Dotachem supplies chemical raw materials for dry cleaning, laundry detergent, textile auxiliaries, industrial cleaning and related fabric care applications, including Tetrachloroethylene, Alcohols C10 Ethoxylate, Lauryl Alcohol Ethoxylate, Nonylphenol Ethoxylate (NPE), Octylphenol Ethoxylate (OPE), Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate (SLES), Cocamide Ethoxylate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine and other surfactant materials.

Different applications require different product directions — a dry-cleaning solvent, a nonionic surfactant and a foaming ingredient cannot be selected by the same logic. Dotachem can help customers confirm product information, specifications, samples, packaging and export documents according to the actual application.

If you are sourcing fabric cleaning chemicals, textile care raw materials or detergent surfactants from China, contact Dotachem for product information, samples and quotation support.
